Is Technology Taking Over Your Life?

Computers, TV’s, cell phones, remotes, dishwashers, etc. are all inventions that have made our life much easier. Our society is becoming more technology advanced everyday, inventing new and innovative ways to improve our lives. On the positive side, these devices have made our lives simpler, but the downfall is it that they have also encouraged us to become lazy. Why take the energy to do something when you have a piece of equipment that will do it for you? Relying on everything but yourself to do things for you will eventually catch up with you. Participating in normal activities with your children will help prevent living an unhealthy lifestyle.

1. TV Remote Controls. Remote controls have been around for quite some time making changing the channel effortless. Every once in a while get up and change the channel yourself. Limit the amount of television to less than 2 hours a day and help in your efforts to stay active not become a couch potato.
2. Parking Lots. Choosing a parking space that is further away is a great way to get some exercise in for the day. Just think you won’t have to worry about fighting the other drivers for the next closest spot!
3. Dishwashers. After slaving over the stove it is nice to just throw your dishes in the dishwasher and let it do all the work. Instead, have the whole family help and wash the dishes by hand. Not only will it teach your children responsibility, but it will keep them away from the TV and give you some more time together.
4. Mailbox. If you live in apartment complex, park your car and walk to get your mail. This short walk is a great way to stretch your legs after a long day behind the desk.
5. Telephone. A good way of catching up with a friend is going on a walk instead of talking on the phone. Take advantage of this nice weather and enjoy your friend's company and get that 30 minutes of recommended daily exercise.
6. Fast Food. Spend the time to cook you or your family a nutritional meal. Fast food restaurants are convenient, but are those meals worth missing out on the proper nutrients your body needs for a healthy diet?

7. Driving. A fun way of getting some exercise is riding a bike. If you are fortunate enough to live close to your place of employment, ride your bike to work. Riding your bike is another great way of recreational exercise you can do with a friend or your family.
8. Online Shopping. Internet has enabled us to do almost everything without leaving our homes. Online shopping is one of those. A mall is a great place to get some exercise whether you are window shopping or need something for a special occasion.

Technology has improved our lives in many ways, but there comes a price. Don’t get me wrong, technology comes in very handy, but don’t let it run your life. We have two legs and arms for a reason!
